Alopecia Areata Treatment (Additional Options)
Last week as posted I had another round of alopecia cortisone shots and also had the chance to speak to my dermatologist about other possible alopecia treatment methods if the cortisone shots don’t “kick in”. The last method he mentioned was kind of interesting however like the treatment option of prednisone I think I will probably pass.
This last method was interesting in that the method was to actually get me to become allergic to a topical substance and then to put this substance on my bald spot until the area became itchy and slightly scale (fun stuff I know).
At this point my doctor told me this irritated area then would call out for white blood cells to help fight off the allergy and would see these other “slightly confused” white blood cells that are attacking my hair follicles and basically tell them to stop.
I wish I had a name to drop here with this post … which I do not, however I still did want to mention this treatment option here. Has anyone else ever heard of such a treatment option for alopecia?

hi my name is Mary iv suffered with Alopieca Areata fr the past 10 years,iv only ever tried homeapathic treatments……as i refused to take any injections into the scalp…at first i really hated the thought of losing my hair as i was only 15yrs old..when i was 18 i met a really understanding guy who made me wear a wig, cause up to that i just wore a baseball cap,and had no confidence in myself at all…a year later i had a beautiful baby girl, and my hair slowly started to grow back, but stoped shortly after….my life began to tear apart my relationship broke up…i had a really hard time with my partner etc….anyway a year later i met a lovely guy and we got engaged and a year lter again we got married……so since im content ha.ha.hs….and went to ejypt on honeymoon the heat seem to help the growth in my hair at the moment..!!!!!now im in the process of starting up my own business!!!!

Hey Mary,
Nice to see you hear
I am glad to hear your moving forward with your life despite the alopecia. I often say that alopecia has taken “some” of my hair but not my smile!
I have tried the injections several times, I guess they helped several years ago however these last two attempts have not helped much.
Personaly I guess I am fine with the current state of my hair, I am able to cover my current spot faily well. My hope is that I don’t ever get it so suver that my alopecia is painfully obvious.
Take care Mary ….
