Alopecia - From Stress?

Over the last 6 years I have been treated by several doctors and have heard several different versions of “what causes alopecia areata”. The most common responses from the doctors that I have seen have been:

  • Alopecia Is Caused By Stress
  • Nobody Really Knows What Causes Alopecia
  • Alopecia Is An Auto Immune Disease In Which The Body Attacks The Hair Follicles

Note the third is not really a “cause” but more of a “what exactly happens with alopecia areata”. Personally I don’t believe the “caused by stress” explanation. Sure when my alopecia first showed signs I was under a certain amount of stress but who isn’t? In fact shortly after I was diagnosed with alopecia areata my life in general improved for the better and I was quite happy (I am a pretty easy going and happy person to begin with).

So if you ask me (of course this is my humble opinion, heck it’s my blog) nobody really knows what triggers alopecia at this time.
