Hair Loss Regrowth - Hairloss

So often when someone learns they are suffering from hair loss due to Alopecia Areata the first questions are:

  • Will I lose all of my hair?
  • Why am I lossing my hair
  • Will my hair grow back?
  • I remember when I learned about Alopecia Areata (AA) these were some of the questions I was asking my dermatologist days later. Today I want to talk about “regrowth of hair” with alopecia areata spacifically. Understand that their are several varieties of alopecia and each one has different triggers, hair loss often follows certain patterns with each type.

As mentioned earlier AA is caused by an autoimmune disorder, with some forms of hair loss the hair follicle dies a slow death and hair never appears in that area again. However Alopecia Areata differs in that hair loss is experienced in small sections of the scalp and often times these areas can experience regrowth.

I have been affected in areas around my ears and at the very top of my scalp, most times I do experience regrowth of my hair (only to have a new balding spot area again) which can be comforting emotionally. Just knowing a bald spot can often times “go away” can be some what positive.

At the same time I while researching for this blog I have learned that patients that suffer with alopecia areata over time experience less and less regrowth… ugh. I personally feel lots of these issues however are still unknown. Nobody really knows “why” people develop AA, I always try to look on the bright side and am thankful this is a “hair loss” disease and not something that is life threatening.

I’ve had alopecia for 13 years now..and I’ve been to a lot of different doctors. I’ve also tried a lot of treatments, but nothing seemed to work. I’ve tried shots in my head, creams, rogaine, a light. And about a year ago my hair started growing back in small areas even when I wasnt doing any treatments. It’s still growing, but I dont know if it will one day fall out again. I’m just hoping it doesn’t. And I’m hoping that it will all grow back.

      Hey Brittany,

Nice to hear your seeing regrowth! Hang tight and enjoy that your hair is coming back. As mentioned in this post I notice hair coming back from time to time but I “personally” always seam to have at least one spot or two.

Anyway, sounds like great news for you ;-)

      Take care,

      Brian

I’ve had Alopecia on and off for 25 years and whilst its been restricted to AA in the past I’m now on the way to Alopecia Universalis as I’m losing body hair as well. I’m getting some good re-growth on my scalp with Cortisone injections so I’m fairly upbeat.
Try it if you haven’t already as its probably the most effective treatment.
