Are you suffering from scalp itch or other dry skin and scalp ailments or is something more serious effecting your scalp and or hair line? Having an itchy scalp is a very common problem especially in the winter months as the air is very dry for an extended period of time. During this time it is quite common for many people to suffer from dry skin and related problems, in serious cases dry skin can lead to more acute problems like intense itching which can lead to sever skin irritation, flaking and scaling as well as redness and sensitivity. It has also been noted in the medical community that stress can also play an effect scalp conditions, stress from ones personal life, financial issues or work related stress can all have an effect on ones health. Of course their are other skin conditions like alopecia, psoriasis as well as seborrheic dermatitis each of these conditions can cause a scalp itch to develop:
Alopecia: Baldness (formally alopecia) is the state of lacking hair where it usually would grow, especially on the head. The most common form of baldness is a progressive hair-thinning condition that occurs in adult humans and many other ape species. Stress factors such as a regular lack of sufficient sleep may be able to accelerate the onset of hair loss in genetically prone individuals. Alopecia comes is several varieties some of which can also create an itching sensation on the scalp (Alopecia Areata).
Psoriasis:A disorder of the skin. Its symptoms include itchiness and blotchy spots. It will often reoccur and its cause is not fully understood, although it is generally considered to be an auto-immune disease. An auto-immune disease is one where the body has an immune response against one of its own tissues or types of cells.
Seborrheic Dermatitis :A chronic inflammatory disease of the skin of unknown cause or origin, characterized by moderate erythema; dry, moist, or greasy scaling; and yellow crusted patches on various areas, including the mid-parts of the face, ears, supraorbital regions (above the orbit of the eye), umbilicus (the navel), genitalia, and especially the scalp.

I get these dry patches on my scalp every so often and I don’t think it’s drandruff because it’s not all over just in random areas. The patches are thick, wide in diameter flaks. It can build up high were I can feel a bump orver the scalp when I lift it up or comb it. I am african american and I know oil is very essinical to my hair for every day use and I’m afraid these patches are killing my hair and possibly making it more difficult for my hair to grow back. I really need help finding some answers to my problem and something to promote healthy hair growth.
Thank

Hi There…I am sufering from an EXTREMELY itchy scalp and patches of my hair are falling out, leaving only skin. I can’t even sleep at night. If anyone has any info on what may cause this or if maybe it could be a fungus or something? It is becoming quite a pain.
Thanks,

Hi Lisa,
I also have extremely itchy scalp and ears. My hair is starting to fall out these last two months. I did take in a sick baby bird about a month ago so I was thinking of a fungus too. I think I will go to a dermatologist. I don’t want to go bald and I am scared.
