What Is Alopecia Areata?

Hello and welcome to our first blog posting, I am your admin here at the site and also have the condition called “alopecia” which is a big fancy medical term for “hair loss”. I am a 39 year old male and have had this condition now since my early 30’s.

Alopecia can effect men, women, children is also is suspect in chemo-therapy patients who often loose their hair. Basically alopecia is caused when the autoimmune system gets “out of wack” or “messed up” and begins to attack hair follicles this often leads to hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere.

Over the last 5 or 6 years I have delt with my on and off hair loss rather well, figure I am touching on 40 now and have a much eaiser time dealing with “hair” then I would guess I teen would. I often feel terrible for younger kids with alopecia. My thought on the manner has always been that is does not effect my health in a sever negative fashion.

So that is a bit about me and how this site has come to be, over the next few days I hope to start to collect articles relating to hair loss and alopecia.
